Hi there and thanks for coming over to www.talkandspoon.com to check out the greatest brunch I’ve ever had! And I mean that in terms of variety, quantity AND quality!
You might have seen SANSIBAR on the blog before. It’s another one of those places we keep coming back to whenever we’re in Sylt, Germany. It was our last day in Sylt and so we thought we’d take our friends SW and AC to see this iconic venue, which is so much more than just a restaurant. SANSIBAR is almost like a casual version of a country club – there’s plenty of parking, you can stay there all day, they serve food all day, there’s play equipment for the kids, not to mention direct access to the beach!
I’d never been to SANSIBAR for brunch before (which they serve from 10:30am, by the way) and boy, I was not disappointed! It was all a bit of a mystery when we arrived. It was confirmed with the waiter that we were there for brunch, and then we were shown to our table and drinks orders were taken. However, we didn’t get any menus and weren’t quite sure how to order…until the food started flooding in.

I’m pretty sure our waiter did at least 4-5 trips back and forth until we had our entire spread laid out on the table. Starting with two separate plates of bread – croissants and mixed bread rolls. Very important part of a German breakfast!

Then some healthy stuff – berry yoghurt and some fruit salad – before we delve into the heavier stuff…

Cold cuts and cheese are also always a staple in German households! Love the selection they had here.

Then we had many iterations of egg. I wasn’t quite sure what the bright yellow egg salad was! It actually looked like curried eggs, but upon trial they weren’t spicy at all. They were, however, very tasty. Of course, we also had the standard scrambled eggs with chives. Does that combination ever get old? And finally a more creamy, boiled egg salad, which was also pretty good but not as big of a hit as the other two types of egg.

Now we come to the truly heavy stuff, which is also (potentially) not normally eaten for breakfast! First up we have currywurst, a personal favourite of DS. You may have seen the currywurst restaurant we went to in Hamburg, Germany. This iteration of currywurst was particularly drenched in sauce, and neatly cut up for easy consumption! We als had fried meats, including bacon and Leberkäse. This was probably my favourite dish! Of course I loved the bacon but I adored the fried leberkäse.
How to describe leberkäse? It literally translates as ‘liver cheese’ which sounds REALLY unappetising, so let’s think of it more as ground down meats, put in a bread pan and baked until crispy. In this case, it is then cut up into slices and fried, for extra crispiness! Trust me, it’s DELICIOUS! And to wash it all down, of course a German meal wouldn’t be complete with some fried potatoes.

They then also decided to throw in a Mozzarella, tomato and basil salad which, to me, seemed a bit random but the light salad was a welcome relief from all the other heavy food!
I hope you can agree with me that this was an absolutely epic brunch. It had everything I could ever have wanted in a brunch meal! I also love the fact that they just brought it all out for us…without requesting. We had no idea how much we would get either! I wonder if you get the same if there are only 2 of you instead of our group of 4… Either way, this is definitely a brunch I’ll be coming back for next time in Sylt. I hope you get to share in this experience too!
