The Foxtrot Inn – Crows Nest, Sydney (Invitation)

Food and drink at the Foxtrot Inn

I would say that THE FOXTROT INN ticks all the boxes for a post-work hang out spot. If I worked in Crows Nest, I reckon I would be there all the time! It’s a notch above your local pub but still has the same warmth and familiarity. Another plus is that the food selection is definitely better than your local pub. Luckily they invited us to check it out!

Quite Simply – frozen mango daiquiri served in a young coconut ($22)

Meat and Cheese board with 3 selections – Will Studd Brillat Savarin Triple Cream, Cashel Blue and Prosciutto di Parma ($29)

We started off with some drinks and nibbles. DS had already ordered an Old Fashioned but the cocktail menu also has some exciting additions if you want to steer clear from the traditional ones. I had a Quite Simply – frozen mango daiquiri served in a young coconut ($22) (sans alcohol, of course!). It’s very much like a fancy slushie served in a coconut. It was a shame we couldn’t actually get any of the coconut flesh out. The coconut seemed very much decorative, rather than adding to the cocktail in terms of flavour.

The meat and cheese board really impressed me! We chose 3 things for $29 – Will Studd Brillat Savarin Triple Cream, Cashel Blue and Prosciutto di Parma. It also comes with some dried fruit, muscatels, some sort of fruit paste, crisp bread and mini toasts! That’s a pretty good deal if you ask me. The cheese serving sizes were quite generous too! I would definitely come back for that.

Caprese – heirloom tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil ($12)

Truffle fries – truffle, parmesan, truffle aioli ($12)

We ordered some sides too. One was good, the other was disappointing. From the photos, it’s hopefully obvious that the Truffle fries – truffle, parmesan, truffle aioli ($12) were very good. Look at that amount of truffle! The amount of parmesan! The truffle aioli (not pictured)! One tiny tip though – I feel like they should have explicitly said these were thick cut chips. I personally love thin chips and fries to me are always thin (think Maccas fries!).

The less exciting side was the Caprese – heirloom tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil ($12)I mean, I get that it’s not a complicated salad. But to just have cut pieces of cherry tomato with a few pieces of basil and cheese on top seemed like a cop out. I could’ve easily made it at home for less than $12. We also realised that we ordered pretty much the same thing in pizza form – see below…

Margherita – tomato, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil ($10)

The pizza deal at THE FOXTROT INN is also seriously good. 10 inch pizzas for $10! Sure, they’re not a huge pizza but they are big enough to satisfy your pizza craving and small enough so you can eat other yummy things. The pizza was definitely impressive. No wonder – the manager told us the chef had worked at Hugo’s in Manly for years! I also always trust DS’s pizza judgement because he worked in a pizza kitchen part-time while at uni. I’d love to come back and try some of the other flavours.

The Foxtrot Inn – food and drinks

All in all, I really enjoyed our dinner at THE FOXTROT INN. The atmosphere with friendly staff was good and it seemed I was not alone in thinking this. By the time we left, the place was full and others quickly occupied our table when we got up. I would recommend THE FOXTROT INN for an after-work hang out or an evening out with your friends with some yummy nibbles. There’s something for everyone for sure!
