Vic’s Meat Smokehouse & Grill – Pyrmont, Sydney

Vic’s Meat Smokehouse & Grill – our spread

You go to VIC’S MEAT MARKET in the Fish Market if you want a big, meaty feed. That seems kind of obvious, but since opening for dinners on Thursday to Saturday nights, their SMOKEHOUSE & GRILL has added some ridiculously tasty things on the menu! We were invited to go and check it all out. As you can see from the picture above, we way overordered…

Chicken nuggets ($7)

Chips ($6)

There are some many tasty things on the menu that it’s difficult to know what to pick. The burgers look great, but we had tried some a couple of months back already. So DS decided to go with the Pork Ribs, Slaw & Pickles (see blackboard for daily price) while I decided to go with a whole lot of smaller sides.

Thinking the sides were going to be ‘small’ was a big mistake! I now also look back and realised we ordered three lots of chips, basically! Let me break it down for you.

Beef brisket snack pack

First up, I got the Chicken nuggets ($7)These were legitimately the best chicken nuggets I’ve ever had. Yes, real chicken of course, but the meat was incredibly tender. I do love Maccas nuggets, but will I be able to go back after this experience?! I also loved the seasoning and dipping sauce they came with. If you go to VIC’S MEAT SMOKEHOUSE & GRILL it is imperative you order these nuggets!

We then also ordered some Chips ($6) because we remembered that they were really good. Again, the seasoning was particularly excellent but the portion is huge! Definitely one to share. Then I was enticed by the Beef brisket snack packYou can also get it with pulled pork if you wish! I was expecting maybe…half the size?! Unfortunately we couldn’t finish this but it was damn tasty! There’s a bit of spice to it as well, so beware if you are sensitive to that.

Mac & Cheese Chips ($7)

We didn’t stop at those chips – we ordered another side of Mac & Cheese Chips ($7). I can’t really describe how great these were. They completely exceeded my expectations and I love that they even added extra cheese on top. My only complaint would be that they were slightly too salty. I know, maybe we just ordered a lot of chips and everything got too salty, but I’m actually glad I got an orange juice to balance it all out!

Pork Ribs, Slaw & Pickles

Now we get to the hero of our meal…the Pork Ribs, Slaw & Pickles. You get a whole rack of ribs, which is incredibly juicy and tender, with a generous serving of condiments. The rub on the ribs is slightly spicy, so again, beware if you’re sensitive to that. You can share the ribs, but what we’ve often found is that you forget how much bone there is and once you get the meat off it’s the perfect amount! In terms of portion size, I found the condiments a bit too generous. DS didn’t feel like eating a whole pickle as well as other pickled vegetables, so they could cut down on that.

VIC’S MEAT SMOKEHOUSE & GRILL is actually a great place for groups too. If we go again, we’d definitely get the meat platter, or the beef short rib which was unfortunately sold out when we went. Or maybe we’ll get a burger…there’s just so much choice!
