Brunch with the mother-in-law? No worries if you’ve got The Butcher’s Block in Wahroonga round the corner from her place!

All jokes aside, it’s always such a pleasure hanging with my mother-in-law. After all, she produced DS who is a top quality human, so she’s gotta be alright! I was keen to check out The Butcher’s Block because it seemed to be constantly packed since its opening. That’s a pretty big deal considering Wahroonga is pretty much a tiny village in my eyes.
I was going through a pretty big muesli phase at the time, so I went for the Bircher – house mixed muesli, poached pear, fresh berries, granola, pomegranate honey ($17.50). We all know I’m a sucker for poached pear, so even though there were two other muesli options available (porridge and granola), this was the clear pick for me. Pomegranate honey, though? To be honest, I couldn’t really tell the difference nor did I even taste a difference. *shoulder shrug*
My mother-in-law went with the Breakfast bruschetta with avocado, serrano prosciutto, basil, cherry tomato, poached egg, sourdough ($18). Not really sure what made it a bruschetta instead of just a regular piece of toast, but she really enjoyed this. The flavour combination is quite Italian and I love how the avocado looked so smooth and creamy.

All in all, it was pretty good. The only gripe we had was the price. My mother-in-law’s dish in particular didn’t seem justified at $18 – she only got one egg on one piece of toast! Maybe the prosciutto was expensive…I guess it is Wahroonga though, so what can I expect!
