Hoog at Severin*s – Keitum, Sylt, Germany

I can’t believe it’s been so long since DS and I were in Germany and I got to show him another one of my ‘homes’. It’s been nice going through photos of when we were there (especially all the places we ate at) and today I’m here to write about Hoog, a new restaurant in Keitum, Sylt (an island off the coast of Germany in the North Sea) in the new up-market resort Severin*s.

[PS: have you seen my Taste of Melbourne giveaway?! Only a few days left to enter – simply repost the photo on your Instagram account and #talkandspoonTOM for your chance to win 2 tickets to this epic restaurant festival!]

You walk down this long driveway to be greeted by the main building of Severin*s. It’s built in the traditional thatch-roof style with cute little square windows throughout. They’ve really styled everything at the resort beautifully, mixing tradition with some modern aspects. You can stay in one of the hotel rooms, or rent out a whole cottage to yourself!

Typical German dining table set-up here – real butter (yes!), bottled water (you must ask for still water if you want it, the default is always sparkling, and tap water still isn’t the norm around here) and some different sugars and milk for your inevitable cup of tea or coffee. Hoog is the casual dining option at Severin*s – there’s also a fine dining restaurant called Tipken’s for those inclined to try the finer things the island has to offer. schnitzel

We tucked into a selection of breads to start off with (the Germans sure love their bread and know how to make it well) before DS ordered a Schnitzel with potato and cucumber salad, lingonberry sauce and an anchovy (‎€24.50) – how very German! He absolutely loved the fact it came with an anchovy and that the lemon is neatly packaged in a sack so that the pips don’t fall out when you squeeze it. So clever! I had the Spinach ravioli with tomato sugo and herbs (‎€13.50) which was super refreshing and light. The sauce was almost like a soup and all the flavours were subtle and well balanced.

coffee

Finally, DS had a coffee to end. In Germany they give it to you with a tiny piece of cake/brownie/cookie to enjoy. What a lovely touch.
