Sorry, did I say I’d write about some German food next? Whoops – here’s a cute little Swedish cafe we went to in Hamburg called Hejpapa!
Look at that! Even the table settings are super cute, simple, and a little bit rustic. Hejpapa serves up simple, home-style meals for you at lunch time, drawing a business crowd from the surrounding buildings in the city.
Those who have been to Germany will know that they’re not heaps into tap water…or still water at all in fact! Most people opt for sparkling water, but there’s also a whole lot of other fun drinks to try. For example, DS got a Lemonaid – passionfruit which is a lemonade with extra passionfruit and mango juice – yum! Lemonaid supports a great cause as well; they use only fair trade ingredients that are all grown organically in small local farms. The passionfruit, for instance, was picked in Sri Lanka. A small amount from each bottle is also donated to a charity! My Apfel Pur apple juice also supports a great cause – all the apples are grown and picked by those in need, providing them with a source of income.
We both went for pasta dishes for lunch as we were craving some Italian food (even though this place is Swedish…go figure!) and what we got was simple home-cooked goodness. I had Macaroni with broccoli and pinenuts, while DS had Spaghetti with pesto and rocket. And both of us of course got a good helping of cheese on top.
Make sure you stop by Hejpapa for some non-pretentious, nutritious food and drinks that you can drink with a good conscience!
