Cafe culture is definitely different in Germany to what it is in Sydney, but there are definitely still a lot of gems around, one of them being Elbgold in Hamburg, a cafe with a heavy focus on coffee!
Elbgold is as much cafe as it is coffee roaster – in fact, their food menu isn’t very extensive at all but their coffee bean menu goes on and on (because it’s also a shop that you can buy coffee beans from…doh)! They also tend to do this thing where they give you a little sweet with your coffee – you know, just for fun. Elbgold does make a mean croissant though…check out those layers of flake.
But oddly enough they dust the croissant with icing sugar, and I proceed to choke and splutter everywhere. No matter, on to bigger and better things in the form of fruit salad and muesli presented in jars. WITH LIDS! As if the jars weren’t cute enough by themselves…
Yummo, what a hearty breakfast on my end. DS chose the never-failing smoked salmon and bagel option – not very German if you ask me…but what can you do! Plenty of German food coming up in the following posts about our trip, so stay tuned!
