10 day cured Peking Duck for lunch? Yes, please! (Oh and the beef above was pretty great too…)
Click through to check out a selection of China Republic‘s new express lunch menu.
This was actually my second trip to China Republic – we had been for Chinese New Year earlier this year and were thoroughly impressed by the authentic menu, served in a modern and sophisticated setting. So when Wasamedia invited me to check out their new express lunch menu, I didn’t think twice in going along.
The Express Menu is priced at $25-$35 and perfect for those on the go – cue all those busy people working in the building above! Being located within World Square also means that China Republic is perfectly placed to entice all those craving some lunch time Peking Duck… But manager Jason also threw in one of his favourites which is not available on the express menu – white chicken! What a tasty start to our lunch – quickly followed by the good old Kung Pao Chicken, as well as a platter of spring rolls, eggplant and a glutinous rice ball.
There are ribs to try out, prawns to be had…it’s probably better I let the food do the talking.
The highlight of course was the Peking Duck. Jason informed us that Cantonese Roast Duck often masquerades as Peking Duck in some Chinese restaurants. That’s the duck you see hanging in the Chinese shops! But never fear – China Republic does it the right and traditional way. The little condiments plate you get is also super fun, featuring the standard plum sauce, some pickled ginger, onions, Chinese mustard, the usual spring onions and cucumber as well as sugar.
Turns out you dip the skin into the sugar. It’s one of the most delightfully decadent things you’ll ever taste.
I definitely envy those city workers who have Din Tai Fung and now China Republic on their door step. But with over 85 things on their normal menu, why wouldn’t I come back for more?!
