St Jude – Redfern, Sydney

Breakfast with J is always a great opportunity to try out some of the lesser known cafes around Sydney. With Cowbell 808 and now St Jude, “that” end of Bourke Street in Surry Hills/Redfern really seems to be up-and-coming. St Jude is packed full of families, couples and groups of friends on a Saturday morning, either enjoying the warm sunlight through the open windows or the outdoor seating on the pavement outside.

  • What we ate:

J and I like to keep it straight and simple when it comes to breakfast foods. He had the Eggs Benedict, which came amply stacked with spinach, bacon and two poached eggs. Unfortunately mistakes do happen, though, and as soon as we alerted the staff of the hair we found in the meal they were quick to apologise and replace the meal. Good service can never go wrong.

I had an assembly of things I always like to eat for breakfast: good bread, scrambled eggs, bacon and avocado. The tomato relish on the side (with a hint of cinnamon nonetheless!) gave the meal that extra kick to get your weekend started. I must say the portions are impressively large – definitely a good I-probably-won’t-eat-all-day kind of a meal!
