On a busy Saturday night, where every restaurant on Dean Street seemed to have at least an hour waiting line, Tonkotsu (while still having a waiting line) was able to accommodate us immediately at the bar. The first thing that hit us was the smell – the warm, homely smell of fresh broth being made right next to the front door by the chef. This place has a small and straightforward menu, which makes choosing what to eat a whole lot easier. And it’s gotta be good if it specialising in one thing – tonkotsu. The overall vibe of the place is great – really relaxed and chilled. No bookings necessary, so just walk in whenever! Definitely going to be back.
- What we ate:
MMB had the tonkotsu (£11) – after one bite of the seasoned egg, the big smile on his face said it all. Tasty as! I had the Tokyo Ramen (£9), which came in a slightly smaller bowl than the tonkotsu, but was nonetheless super tasty. That egg really is something, as is the pork belly!!! We also shared some edamame (£3.50) which was served warm with generous salt flakes on top. I’m not sure what Londoners think of the prices, but as someone from Sydney this is definitely good value!
