DS and I discovered this little gem on the less trendy end of Bourke Street a couple of months ago. And what a joy to find a Surry Hills cafe that is not packed full of loud hipsters on a Sunday morning! It does, however, still have the quirky Surry Hills vibe – there is a basketball hoop in the middle of the room, a set of traffic lights mounted to the corner wall, a stack of 90s hi-fi systems, large canvases of graffiti and funky orange cups for you to drink your water out of. The furniture is also a nice mix-and-match, but grabbing the cushioned bench at the back is always fun.
- What we ate:
We went for a good breakfast feed, although they also serve lunch. SD and I opted for the never-fail scrambled eggs with thick Sonoma rye and thick, house-smoked bacon (approx $8). SUCH tasty bacon! And it doesn’t feel like you’re just eat a whole lot of fat! G went for the trusty bacon and egg roll (which I also had last time I was there) and boy, is it a solid piece of food! Definitely one for the boys, topped with some BBQ sauce. A had the somewhat different grilled eggplant roll/wrap with fried cauliflower, hummus and mint on house-made flat bread ($12) – super tasty and filling for those willing to try something new.
Definitely will be coming back to this place – keen to try some lunch fare as well as these amazing-sounding ricotta hotcakes with bacon ice cream (?!). I hear their burger is great too.
