Throwback to a couple of months ago when DS celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary with a staycation at the Old Clare Hotel in Chippendale! (On a side note, wow! Two years has gone by really quickly. If you missed it, here was a quick recap of the food we had at our wedding) It was really fun to stay in the Chippendale area because you actually felt like you had gone into a whole different part of town, even though it’s not so far from our home in Darlinghurst. There are so many little cultural things to do like visiting the local art galleries, not to mention all the food options. It’s got everything from the cheap and cheerful Spice Alley to fine dining.
We had booked breakfast at the Old Clare Hotel for one of our mornings (you actually eat at Kensington Street Social!) but the other morning we decided to explore the area. We ended up at CONCRETE JUNGLE CAFE with my bestie S tagging along too!
DS and S ended up ordering pretty much the same thing – Smashed avocado on toast with coconut feta ($14.50). But they did have different sides! S added some black sesame and halloumi ($4.00) to her dish, while DS had smoked salmon ($6). When I saw that they had a majik smoothie bowl on the menu, my curiosity got the better of me. Yes, I pretty much did it for the ‘gram, but you’ve got to admit it looked pretty!
In all serious, the Blue Majik Smoothie Bowl – blue algae, pineapple, banana, coconut water & coconut yoghurt topped with blueberries and housemade granola ($17.50) was packed full of goodness. Look at all the fruit in there! I cannot pretend to know the benefits of blue algae, but it sounds healthy. Taste-wise, the pineapple flavour was definitely the strongest. Also, I didn’t realise how cold and icy the bowl would be. So perhaps it wasn’t the best choice for an unseasonably cold and windy morning! But hey, I felt like I did something good for my body.
