A cheeky girls day out doesn’t get much better than high tea, especially when it’s as decadent as the Designer Winter Afternoon Tea at The Langham. But get in quick – it’s only on til the end of August!!!

It was really quite impromptu that S texted me to ask if I wanted to go for high tea. Heck flippin’ yeah I did! It was also a great chance for me to check out the new Langham – well I guess it isn’t really new anymore but I hadn’t been in since the refurbishments were done and it certainly looks very impressive. Make sure you go to the bathrooms (haha, it’s the little things right!) and check out the over-the-top but oh-so-cool marble situation. Marble errywhere, just the way you like it.

First of all we chose our teas. Considering this was a Wedgwood high tea, we thought we’d go with the Wedgwood Original Blend tea. Who else finds tea choices hard?! To stick with the trusty old English Breakfast or try something now…tough one. We went for the standard high tea package ($75 per person – it’s definitely not cheap…but it’s ‘designer’) and three tiers of deliciousness were served to us.
I like to start with the scones because if I leave them to the end I am always too full to enjoy them. We got 2 plain vanilla scones and 2 raisin scones, with beautiful smooth clotted cream and some strawberry jam as well.

Next tier up we had our savouries, which had a great selection. Love it when it’s not just sandwiches! We had Chicken parfait, toasted brioche & red currant gel (although I swear it wasn’t chicken parfait that we had, looked more like a salmon remoulade…), Rare roasted beef on Parisian croute with horseradish crème & onion jam, slow cooked lamb mini-pie, honey ham & fromage finger sandwiches and Christmas turkey, cranberry & alfalfa finger sandwiches. My favourite was definitely the ham & cheese sandwich (simplicity wins!) and the roasted beef.
The top tier had aaaallll the sweets. So excited to eat all of these! Especially in light of the fact that I’ll be quitting sugar this week (more on that later perhaps…). We had a Mont Blanc tart with meringue & vanilla chantilly snow, Old school white chocolate and brandy truffle, Gingerbread snowflake with clementine marshmallow, Gold dusted sticky date macaron (which wasn’t actually gold dusted), and Cranberry & cinnamon lamington cake. My favourite I must say was the gingerbread snowflake cookie (so cute!!!) and the truffle. S and I both didn’t like the lamington at all unfortunately…strange flavours that didn’t quite work.
Overall, I’d say this is a pretty indulgent high tea experience. If it wasn’t for the winter special, I probably wouldn’t go again. I did like that they had some special and unusual pastries and things. You really go for the whole package – the Wedgwood tea, the Wedgwood china, the luxury hotel and the very attentive service (they even took our coats into a cloak check).
This offer is only available til the end of August 2016. So get in quick if you want to check it out!
