Cumulus Inc. – Melbourne CBD

We rocked up to Cumulus Inc. on a Sunday morning with the view to having brunch there – we should’ve known better. Rocking up at 11am was also not the best idea, considering the breakfast menu only goes til 11:30am and lunch starts at 12pm! Thankfully the lady at the door told us to just come back at lunch time, she would take our names now and we’d be seated immediately when we came back.

First up – their bread is incredible. We got 2 different types of bread – I think one was a brioche and the other a sourdough with a very crunchy crust. Sometimes simple bread and butter is just the best. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We were at first a bit taken aback at the lunch menu prices, considering the breakfast menu is what I would consider ‘normal breakfast cafe prices’. Once you hit lunch though, it’s proper fine dining territory. We were a bit caught out about this – I want to be frank with you guys about this, food bloggers aren’t made of money! – so we decided to just share 2 things. We got the Kitchen charcuterie selection ($31.90) which was an incredible plate of different meats and condiments. It’s all picked out by the kitchen on the day, so you’ll never get the same charcuterie plate. Sitting at the bar meant that we had a great view of our plate being put together. Would highly recommend this if you get the chance! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We also got the Cape Grim short rib, eggplant, mustard fruits & tongue ($42.90) with some Roast new season potatoes, confit garlic & sage ($9.90) on the side. Amazingly tender pieces of beef and I loved the pops of colour from the grated radish on top. I actually don’t know where the mustard fruits went? I feel like I didn’t eat any. Also highly recommend the potatoes though, possibly the yummiest roast potatoes I’ve ever had. That garlic buttery stuff is incredible.

We could’ve had dessert too but we thought we’d save that for a pastry shop or some cafe in the afternoon. I later heard from a friend that we ordered weirdly at Cumulus Inc. and that those weren’t the typical Cumulus Inc. dishes…oh well, you learn! So tip of the day – rock up early or you can expect a queue. Oh, and get those potatoes!
