I’ve been a little AWOL lately but GUYS THIS IS MY 200TH POST!
And I bring to you – Burnt Orange in Chatswood Chase, the sister cafe of Burnt Orange in Mosman (that place with the epic view across Sydney Harbour!)
Firstly, behold my tea set up here. Not only are the teapots and cups super cute, the little table flower adds a pretty, high-tea-like, touch (although the flower is fake…).
And how pretty is all our food?! I went for the Lunch board: soft-boileg egg, dips, house-pickled vegetables, avocado and artisan cheese with house-smoked jamon serrano ($26) which was totally up my alley. I love having all the different bits to eat on my plate (well, board) and I absolutely loved how colourful everything was. It’s a bit lunch board though, so come with an empty stomach if you’re going to get that!
DS had the Alaskan King Crab Benedict on toasted brioche ($24) which sounds incredible, right? Unfortunately it was a little underwhelming and the crab was really lacking in flavour. You know when you buy pre-shelled crab from the supermarket or something and it just kind of tastes bland…not like the fresh stuff you get straight from the crab.
DS also had a juice to go with his meal – you can get a selection of cold-pressed juices for $9 which is pretty pricey…but I guess it’s fresh cold-pressed as opposed to the ones you buy in a bottle?!
After all that our kind waiter offered us some dessert, which we initially declined because we were quite full but then we gave in because YOLO. Please see below our epic desserts…
Gotta get all the angles on the cakes, y’all! We shared the Banoffee pie with maple-roasted pecans and Belgian chocolate ribbons ($12) which is a bit of a deconstructed version of the pie I guess. Is it weird to say that the pecans were the best bit?! I just love sweet roasted nuts. This is quite a heavy cake though and I definitely think I would’ve enjoyed it much more if I hadn’t just had a big lunch. The second cake we shared was a special of the day – a pomegranate and molasses cake which very subtle and beautiful in flavour. Definitely recommend, and definitely something your grandma would have for tea.
