Back when it was still cold and windy at night, my friend T and I checked out Busshari in Potts Point for a solid Japanese feed, thanks to Washoku Lovers.
How to warm up? With some sake of course! Variety of ways to have it, but T chose to have it on the rocks. We were seated at the bar which is also super interesting – our super sushi master chef (sorry I don’t know the proper term for a sushi chef…) was kind enough to whip up a plate of various nigiri (including the most epic tuna belly I’ve ever had) and some uni…which I keep hearing everyone rave on about how special and rare it is. Unfortunately, much like oysters, it wasn’t to my liking and reminded me of having the whole ocean in my mouth. Sorry guys! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe I’ll learn to love it in time. We also tucked into the sashimi plate pictured first which was amaaaze. There were so many types of fish that I’d never had before – really interesting trying them all!
The portions were big! We also tucked into the Grilled eggplant topped with miso paste ($16) which is excellent for all eggplant fans. One of the signature dishes is also the Beef tataki, and the Duck baos were a special on that night too! Don’t think I’ve ever had duck in a bao…usually it’s pork, hey?
If you’re part of the Washoku Lovers club, you get a complimentary green tea ice cream (or black sesame if you ask really nicely!). We got one of each to satisfy both our cravings, and I love that sauce they put on the black sesame ice cream.
T and I were actually really impressed by Busshari. Sure, it’s Japanese food you could probably get at other places. However, the quality is exceptionally high (especially the sashimi)!
