I have mentioned before, that high tea never fails to impress. Though this incarnation may not literally have been ‘high’, it was absolutely superb and special. JYSL and I had talked about going to one of Joël Robuchon’s many institutions around Hong Kong but unfortunately L’Atelier is slightly beyond our budget. So we hadn’t really planned to visit Monsieur Robuchon, however a walk through The Landmark in Central, Hong Kong, led us past Le Salon de Thé de Joël Robuchon and we thought, why not? Without a question we had to pick the Afternoon Tea Set – priced at HK$380 for two (just over AU$50), we thought it was quite well priced, especially for what may be considered as ‘designer’ high tea. This included a drink of our choice (not just limited to tea or coffee) so we decided to be be exotic and order a Green Tea Latte for JYSL and a Ginger Latte for myself. After I was reassured that my latte would taste like gingerbread, I was disappointed to find that it didn’t actually taste much like gingerbread at all – just ginger.
Never mind though – let’s focus on the food. Two long platters were served to us, one containing savouries and one containing sweets. The savoury platter had:
– Maine lobster and mango sandwich
– French style black truffle sandwich
– Smoked salmon and salmon egg sandwich
– Vegetarian eggplant sandwich
– Goat’s cheese with salmon sandwich
Quite a lot of seafood and no roast beef/ham which usually features, but it was really tasty. The presentation was also beautiful, especially the mini baguette-style bread. I think my favourite was the black truffle sandwich – spreadable truffle?! Bring it on!

Sweets included some amazing choices:
– Mont-blanc
– Paris-brest
– White chocolate raspberry cake
– Homemade macaron ganache
– Mango jelly cheese cake
– Petit fours
But just look at that presentation! How adorable are the mini macarons! They were only about as big as my thumb (and I have a small thumb). On top of that there were scones with this beautiful strawberry-rose jam, but sadly we didn’t get round to them after eating out for breakfast, lunch and then tea (but shhh we also ate out for dinner that day!). Apologies for the average quality of the photos though – we were too keen to eat…I hope you understand.
All in all, a very beautiful, special and unique high tea experience. I would definitely go again – even if not for tea, their a la carte menu sounded rather yum. Or perhaps I will be able to afford to go one step higher up the Robuchon restaurant ladder next time? A girl can dream.
