I’m not going to lie…the Gudetama Cafe was maybe, possibly, actually, really, the highlight of our trip to Singapore. We also may have been slightly delirious with excitement when we made that judgement. It’s kind of funny that we made sure that this was on our Singapore to-eat list, even though we were only there for 3 days…Gudetama is definitely our spirit animal.
There’s quite a fun drinks list, but the drinks were also really expensive. I ordered a tea – from memory it was a herbal tea. (Apologies, I think I was too excited and forgot to take a picture of the menu!). I was really interested to see how they’d incorporate Gudetama into every dish and drink. In this instance, I got a little side dish with a Gudetama biscuit, cream and jam. Was it supposed to be a scone?! Not sure…
JL and I both got the Gudetama pasta, kind of like a carbonara. It had bacon, a creamy sauce, some fish roe and an onsen egg. Of course, the onsen egg is Gudetama! It actually tasted really good but was definitely a tad on the heavy side. Not ideal when it’s 36 degrees outside and steamily humid.
DS definitely got the best dish of us all. We totally had food envy! It was a big breakfast in a pan – Gudetama style! Not only were the fried eggs imprinted with Gudetama’s face, how cute is the little egg container for the baked beans. There was also a sausage, some salad and mushrooms. Definitely a solid big breakfast.
So all in all, the food is actually quite good. It was surprising to us because we had zero expectations of this place. We were just happy to be sucked into the gimmicky nature of the whole place! It is on the expensive side, so be warned! From memory the mains were between SG$25-35. But it didn’t matter to us – the whole experience was so much fun. I didn’t get that many photos of the interior of the cafe unfortunately (again, was swept up in the excitement!). Rest assured though, it’s totally kitted out with Gudetama merchandise and you get to sit in a little egg-shaped booth!
